Connections to the Community House of Moorestown
This past Monday, I was finishing up a three-hour appointment in Barrington for a dental procedure to replace my front crowns. I was swollen, hurting, and trying to speak clearly as I scheduled a follow-up visit with the assistant. Before we looked at the calendar, she asked, “You work at the Community House?” I painfully replied yes. She got excited and exclaimed, “My daughter was married there!”
The all-purpose room hosted many years of basketball games and tournaments, volleyball matches, dances, and team banquets. Over time, the predominantly men’s basketball leagues slowly diminished because families’ needs started to change. Household responsibility shifted to two working parents; therefore, juggling children and their activities became the priority. The reservation specialist, Joan Brown, jokingly mentioned to the long-tenured executive director, Bill Newborg, “We should turn the basketball court into a ballroom!” They laughed, then a lightbulb clicked on, and the planning began.
