Background:
The Community House opened its doors in 1926 thanks to a generous matching gift from Eldridge Johnson, a former Moorestown resident and founder of the Victor Talking Machine Company, and donations from the town’s citizens. Since its founding, the Community House has served as the iconic landmark and central gathering space for the town. It has become the backdrop for generations of Moorestown memories. The way in which we serve the community has evolved and expanded since 1926 and our leadership team is focused on maintaining The Community House’s role in the lives of Moorestonians.

The Community House of Moorestown is an independent 501-c3 non- profit organization, without government affiliation or the receipt of local, state or federal tax dollars.

Position Summary:
The Executive Director is responsible for insuring that the Community House is able to continue to serve as a community, civic, social and cultural center, the venue for a diverse array of organizations, programs and charitable, cultural, recreational, social and educational events.

The Executive Director reports to and works actively with the Board of Trustees, functioning as the lead executive.  The Executive Director will serve as the face and voice of the organization through participation in external civic, business and social events and the nonprofit community, and by articulating the Community House’s mission and purpose to increase visibility, credibility and brand awareness. Key areas of responsibility include: long-term and near-term strategic planning, assisting the Board with its operations, administration, planning and information dissemination, fund raising, budget development and financial management, facilities management including program/venue operation, human resources development, and community relations. The Executive Director must work with imagination, creativity and flexibility, and have the passion to preserve, restore, stabilize and rehabilitate the Community House through a diversified use of the building, effective fundraising and desire to serve the community.

Responsibilities:

Strategic and Annual Planning
– Manage the future direction and sustainability of the organization.
– Develop an actionable strategic plan for fundraising, grant procurement and overall community gifting
– Develop the annual budget for Board approval
– Monitor implementation of strategic and annual plans, working with staff and board committees to evaluate progress, celebrate accomplishments and update goals.

Financial Management
– Budget development and monthly cash flow management
– Coordinate filing of federal and state taxes and other government-related documents
– Prudently manage the organization’s resources within the approved annual budget
– Ensure the development of regular financial statements and an annual audit or review
– Develop and implement Fee schedules for users and tenants
– Authorize expenditures and ensure compliance with the organization’s fiscal policies, as well as applicable laws, regulations and funder requirements

Fund Raising & Development
– Create a culture of fundraising to drive fund raising programs/products for annual giving, major gifts and capital campaigns
– Lead the efforts to research funding sources, meet with funders, cultivate donors and facilitate grant writing.
– Ensure effective board involvement in fundraising

Human Resource Management
– Oversee daily operations of the organization, providing executive direction for program strategies, compliance and quality assurance
– Hire, supervise, evaluate and provide support to staff
– Develop staff retention plan
– Create working environment where open communication is paramount
– Implement Board-approved personnel policies

Board of Trustees Support
– Inform the Board of the go-forward strategic plan and identify roles that the Board can fill to support the Executive Director.
– Advise the Board on current issues, trends, opportunities and challenges as part of fulfilling the strategic plan.
– Serve as the primary liaison between the Board and Staff, working to coordinate information sharing and teamwork
– Attend and participate in Board Meetings
– Draft agenda and assist Board President in planning Board meetings

Facilities Management
– Establish policies and procedures (refine as needed) with the Community House Head of Maintenance
– Qualify and select venders of equipment and services
– Landlord responsibilities to full-time tenants
– Schedule and coordinate all inspections including, fire, boiler, elevator and health department
– Respond to fire and burglar alarm calls from police or central monitoring station
– Maintain IT equipment and services

Community and Public Relations
– Serve as the public face of the organization communicating to the diverse stakeholders, including users, tenants, community leaders, residents, donors, media outlets, local businesses and other allied organizations.
– Manage all internal and external communication materials and delivery including website and social media.

Experience & Skills:
The Executive Director needs excellent interpersonal and leadership skills. Strong marketing, public relations, and fundraising experience with the ability to engage a wide range of stakeholders and cultures are important. Strong computer, writing and verbal communications skills also important. Bachelor’s or higher degree preferred.
