Oktoberfest: A Celebration of Beer and Bavarian Culture
Oktoberfest, the world’s largest beer festival, is held annually in Munich, Germany. It all started on October 12, 1810, when Crown Prince Ludwig celebrated his marriage to Princess Therese. Can you imagine horse races and local festivities on a meadow called “Theresienwiese”? Over the years, it’s grown into a lively celebration of Bavarian culture, filled with delicious food, live music, and lots of beer!
Beer became the festival’s main attraction after the first stands appeared in 1818. By the 1850s, permanent beer tents were built to handle the massive crowds. Despite interruptions from wars, Oktoberfest thrives, drawing around six million visitors each year from mid-September to early October. It’s a true testament to the Bavarian spirit!
