From Don’t Touch to Climb In!
Once upon a time in America (okay, the early 2000s), parents everywhere were uttering the classic line: “Don’t touch that, you’ll get hurt!” Then, somewhere in a small town—possibly near a firehouse, definitely near a snack table—someone had a revolutionary idea: “What if we just… let them touch everything?”
And just like that, Touch-a-Truck rolled onto the scene.
What started as a handful of fire departments and community groups letting kids peek inside emergency vehicles quickly snowballed into a nationwide sensation. Pretty soon, kids were sitting behind the wheel of giant dump trucks, climbing into the cabs of 18-wheelers, and asking bulldozer operators the age-old question: “How fast does this thing go?” (The answer: not as fast as you think, but still way cooler than your minivan.)
The magic is in the mix: horns honking, lights flashing, and children grinning like they’ve just been handed the keys to the city—because in a way, they have. And the best part? You get to meet the real-life heroes who operate these machines, without anyone having to pull you over first.
And now, it’s our turn! On Wednesday, August 20, from 2:00 – 6:00 pm, the Community House parking lot will turn into a wonderland of wheels. Fire trucks, police cruisers, construction rigs, you name it, we’re parking it. And yes, you can climb right in.
So, bring your camera, your curiosity, and maybe some earplugs (trust me on that one). This is your chance to let the little ones live out their big-wheel dreams— while you get to say, “Sure, go ahead and touch that.”
Free to attend! Face Painting – Games – Chalk Art Zone – Crafts – Music
King’s Road Beer and food are available for purchase.
